Olympic Torch

London 2012 has announced the detailed route the Olympic Torch will take in the summer of 2012.

The Olympic Torch route through Northumberland

The Olympic Flame will come within 10 miles of 95% of people in the UK, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. It will enable local communities to shine a light on the best their area has to offer - including celebrations of local culture, breathtaking landscapes and dynamic urban areas.

On Thursday 14th June 2012 the Flame will enter Northumberland at Berwick upon Tweed and travel towards Bamburgh and then will arrive at Alnwick.

The Flame will arrive in Alnwick on 14th June 2012.

Northumberland County Council Chief Executive Steve Stewart said: "This really is fantastic news for the county and a once in a lifetime opportunity for everyone involved.

"This is a chance for Northumberland residents to show their support for the Olympics and to be a part of the excitement it brings to the world."

The Duchess of Northumberland said: "Given the national and international media interest that follows the Olympic torch procession, Alnwick and Northumberland will briefly have the world spotlight on it.

"I know that when the torch comes through Alnwick, the Olympic spirit will touch each and every one of us and it will be something we will all remember for years to come".
