What is Equality?

Equality is about making sure people are treated fairly and given a fair chance. Equality is not about treating everyone in the same way, but it recognises that their needs are met in different ways. Equality focuses on those areas covered by the law, namely the key areas of race, gender, disability and more recently, religion or belief, age and sexual orientation.

What does Equality mean to Northumberland Sport?

The Northumberland Sport Partnership accepts that it has responsibility to promote equality in sport. This means giving everyone a fair chance to access sport and to achieve their potential, including pro-active measures to improve access by groups that are under-represented, for example, people living in urban and rural priority areas, disabled people, women and girls and people from ethnic minorities.

Equality Standard

Northumberland Sport has been awarded the Foundation Level of the Equality Standard: A Framework for Sport. Northumberland Sport were the first County Sports Partnership in the North East to be awarded this achievement, which is the result of the fantastic effort from Partners and the Core Team in contributing to the process and pulling together a detailed and extensive portfolio of evidence.  For more information visit our Equality Standard pages.
