Cast Your Vote in the OneFamily Community Award

16th August 2017

Two clubs in Northumberland are in the public vote to receive £10,000 through the OneFamily Community Awards in the Active Living category and we would like to wish them both good luck in the vote.  Here is some information about the two clubs;

Blyth Rugby Club

Blyth Rugby Club are hoping to receive the funding to provide equipment for their ever growing youth section which would benefit the community by helping young people to get fit and enjoy sport.  By teaching youngsters the rugby codes of conduct the club can help them to develop skills in communication as well as respecting others.

Wansbeck Gymnastics and Trampolining Club (WGTC)

WGTC is based at Ashington Leisure Centre, with a satellite centre at Newbiggin Leisure Centre, and offers gymnastics and trampolining classes to over 300 members with an additional 200 more on waiting lists.  With the funding the Club is looking to purchase new equipment to improve training opportunities and ensure that all members can reach their true potential. The funding will also provide additional training for its existing coaching staff, who are mostly volunteers.

Liz Naylor, WGTC Head Coach, said: “WGTC is a collaboration of gymnasts, coaches, volunteers and parents from the local community who all support the club’s ethos of supporting every single person to reach their full potential within the sport. We are proud of every success within the club from personal achievements to national titles and this funding award would help us provide more training opportunities to more people in a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment.”

“Each year we give hundreds of thousands of pounds to fund projects, making a real difference to the good causes and those that benefit from them. A fantastic range of entries have been nominated this year and all of them are projects that our customers care passionately about. Anyone can vote and those that get the most will win, so I’d encourage everyone in throughout Northumberland to get involved.”
