Community Sports Coaches
Community Sports Coaches Scheme (CSCS) was introduced in 2004 to increase the number of paid professional sports coaches working at a local level to improve the quality of sports activities.
Funded through Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS), CSCS is coordinated by Sport England and managed by local County Sports Partnerships.
In April 2006 6 new Community Spotrs Coaches started work in Northumberland. These posts include Athletics (Tynedale and Alnwick), Cricket (Wansbeck and Alnwick), Rowing (Tynedale), Basketball (South East Northumberland) and a Women and Girls Coach (Tynedale). This extra resource for the County was only secured due to the hard work provided by the individual employees from the National Governing Bodies, Local Authorities/Trusts and Core Team, to ensure Sport England deadlines were achieved.
The Northumberland Sport Core Team, in conjunction with sportscoach UK, have also just completed the first year of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training opportunities provided to all Community Sports Coaches. The events have been seen as a great success and the new CPD programme started again in September 2007 and all coaches are encouraged to attend.
