2011 Newbiggin Triathlon - ETU World Championship Qualifier
The Newbiggin triathlon is traditionally the North Region`s final open water triathlon of the season. Tri Northumberland are proud to announce that the British Triathlon Federation has selected the 2011 Newbiggin triathlon as an ETU World Championship Qualifying event for Eilat, Israel in 2012.
Racing at the Bay has a growing reputation for providing an European style crowd creating plenty of noisy support to help you make it to the finish with good humour and a smile.
The Newbiggin Triathlon is now in its 3rd year, both 2009 and 2010 events `sold out` well in advance of the last entry date. This event is the jewel in the crown for triathlon, Newbiggin triathlon`s unique and lunchtime (ish) start makes sure the local community of South East Northumberland come out and support the event in numbers - you will not be disappointed....you have to be there to take in the finish line atmosphere, it is electric.
Newbiggin-by-the-Sea is a beautiful Northumberland coastal fishing village approximately 14 miles North of Newcastle upon Tyne, but don`t tell anyone as it is our secret!
The event consists of a 750m Sea swim in the shallow bay behind the protective breakwater, followed by a 3 lap bike route totalling 23km on open and part closed roads around the village making this a fantastic spectator course with multiple opportunities to cheer competitors along! Then into a 2 lap run totalling 5.2km along the promenade with cheering crowds to help you to a personal best and a big smile!
