Keith Willshire receives the award from Regional Council Chair Karen Johns
At the recent England Athletics Awards presentation for the North East Region Blyth Running Club were presented with an award for the Development Club of the Year and Steff Ramsay from the club won the Young Volunteer of The Year Award.
Blyth Running Club is one of the region's fastest-growing athletics clubs in the North East. Despite being close to more established clubs, their hard-working back-room team have built up a strong group of young athletes as well as slowly strengthening their senior groups.
To give their athletes an opportunity to compete across more events, they have joined with Wallsend in the North of England senior track and field league, and Alnwick Harriers to compete in the Young Athletes League.
Steff Ramsay has grown in confidence over the years and is now a valuable member of Blyth Running Club. In 2009 she was selected to attend the "Young Leaders Camp" at Rugby School and also volunteers as part of the national "Step Into Sport" programme which is organised through her school with support from Northumberland Sport.
Steff is doing a community based placement with Blyth Running Club and has already achieved her bronze and silver awards for over 100 hours volunteer work with the club and is well on her way to her gold award for volunteering 200 hours at the club over a two year period.
