Why Themed Rounds?

Sport England’s themed rounds of National Lottery Funding aim to tackle gaps in sporting participation, to complement their other funding programmes.

Sport England are planning to run up to three themed rounds in each year of their current funding strategy.

Latest Themed Round

The Active Women Themed Round application process has now closed.

Active Universities is the latest 'Themed Round' of Sport England funding.  To apply for this funding, you must ensure your project;

  • Is strongly focussed on sport for higher education students enrolled at a university
  • directly addresses Sport England's objectives for this round
  • Is for £10,001 or over

Application Process

A total of £10m National Lottery funding is available for this theme so unfortunately Sport England will not be able to fund every application, however justifiable and worthwhile the project may be.

Deadline for Phase 1 Applications

From 29 March 2010, Sport England welcome initial applications from organisations looking to receive funding from our Active Universities themed round. This first stage of applications will close at 5pm on 23 June 2010.

To ensure that the stage one process is effective and efficient, all eligible applications will be considered at a single Project Board meeting, and applicants will be notified of the outcome by September 2010.

Please visit Sport England's website for further information.

If your project is not appropriate to this theme it may be better suited for a subsequent theme or one of Sport England's other funding programmes, such as the Small Grants Fund.
