Netball comes to Alnwick

Sporting Champion Craig Heap pays a visit to Alnwick Netball Club

Alnwick Sports Development started running Netball through the Sport Unlimited programme at Willowburn Sports Centre in January 2009. The Sport Unlimited programme enables children to try new sports through funding from Sport England. The sessions proved very popular and continued to run under the Sport Unlimited Programme for a further year.

Once the funding came to an end, the participants and coach did not want to stop running the sessions so they decided to form as their own club. Level 3 coach Nicola Sanders, who used to be the Women, Girls and 50+ officer for Alnwick Sports Development, runs the succesful club and recently applied to the sports council for financial support to help the club get off the ground.

Alnwick and District Sports Council were happy to support this application as it enables so many young people in the district to become involved with a new and exciting club. The club hope to enter competitions in the future.
