Alnwick Most Active in Country
Leisure Alnwick would like to congratulate everyone who has helped make Alnwick District the most Active in the Country, according to The Active People Survey carried out by Sport England.
The Active People survey is carried out to find out more about adults' exercise habits and to help with future efforts to increase participation in sport and other similar leisure pastimes.
Councillor Ian Hinson, Alnwick District Council, said "Improving sports and leisure opportunities throughout the district has been a priority of the council for several years and one of our key goals is to promote a healthy community."
"For the national survey to show that we are top, compared with other local authority areas, reflects, to a significant extent, on the investment we have made by providing or making possible high quality sports and leisure facilities at several venues."
Being physically active is an important part of keeping healthy and, as a council, we are keen to encourage participation in such recreation. One way we can play our part is by ensuring that people have the chance to keep fit in safe and attractive surroundings where a number of activites are caterd for."
The Chairman of Leisure Alnwick, Mr Chris Horner said "We would like to pay tribute to the very many volunteers who devote their spare time to organising sport and to the local schools for their work in developing sport in the district".
