Happy Nordic Walkers enjoying a walk along the river Aln

North Northumberland Sports Development have been delivering Nordic Walking sessions since May 2011, and the sessions have proved to be very popular. Nordic Walking was first introduced at the Young at Heart Event which was held at Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre in May, where free taster sessions were offered. Further taster sessions where offered throughout the summer which again proved very popular.

Leah Flynn who runs the sessions, wrote to all of the participants to offer them further sessions in the activity. 9 people booked onto the first 6 week block of sessions which started in September and the group have enjoyed weekly walks of up to 5 miles in the Alnwick district, ending with a trip to the Northumberland coast where the group walked from Embleton to Craster and back. Walkers from the group have described the sessions as "thoroughly enjoyable" and "fun", and have offered many a chance to meet new friends and take up regular exercise in a relaxed environment.

Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience.  With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross country skiing, Nordic Walking becomes a genuinely whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels. There will be another 6 week block of sessions starting in January. Taster sessions are also available. Please contact Leah Flynn for further information - 01665 511494.
