IT’S GREAT OUTDOORS
Thousands of visitors to Kielder Water & Forest Park are set to benefit from a rolling programme of events which will encourage physical activity in the outdoors.
The Kielder Partnership has appointed Shona Hendrick (31), as events and activity development officer, to increase the provision of activities at the Park which specifically promote and deliver physical activity and the health benefits associated with keeping fit.
Her role is part of a three year Event & Activity Development Project for Kielder Water & Forest Park and is supported by Active Tynedale.
Elisabeth Rowark, Kielder Partnership director, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Shona to the team and to be working with Active Tynedale to improve the events on offer in the Park. It is such a great place to take in the fresh air, absorb tranquillity and do something physical – all great ingredients for a healthy lifestyle.”
Local girl Shona, who lives in Bellingham, joins the Kielder Partnership with a wealth of experience having previously managed events for up to 10,000 visitors at Wallington mansion in Northumberland.
Shona added: “The role is an exciting opportunity for me to work with different target groups, build new contacts, and have a fresh focus on the outdoors and physical activity in a new and beautiful setting.”
Her responsibilities will include establishing an advisory group comprising key stakeholders to stimulate new ideas. She will also consult with and engage wider interested parties in determining the activities that will best interest and engage visitors.
The post is funded for two and half years by Sport England North East, Tynedale Council and Kielder Partnership.
Kielder Water & Forest Park is home to the largest forest in England and the largest man-made lake in Northern Europe. It was recently voted the most tranquil place in England by the Campaign to Protect Rural England and attracts over 210,000 visitors a year.
