Junior Boxing gets a boost in Prudhoe

Soon you will be able to box your way to fitness when a new boxing club for 8-18 year olds opens its doors at the East Centre in Prudhoe. Tynedale Sports Development, managed by local charity North Country Leisure Tynedale, worked with the East Centre and Prudhoe Policeman Peter Neal, boxing coach at the centre to secure funding for equipment and coaches for the club from the Awards for All funding scheme. It is hoped that sessions will start in March.

In preparation for the opening of the club, temporary junior boxercise sessions will be running for 6 weeks at the East Centre, delivered by coaches from Prudhoe Waterworld, thanks to funding Tynedale Sports Development has sourced from Sport Unlimited. The sessions start on Monday 23rd February and will run every Monday and alternate Fridays.

“Boxing is a great way to keep fit, tone up and distress by working off your excess energy.” Said Karen Storey, Fitness Manager at Prudhoe Waterworld. “Predominantly seen as a male sport, sessions such as Boxacise which combines the principles and basic moves of boxing with an aerobic workout, has encouraged more women and girls to take up the sport so it’s something everyone can get involved with.”
