Active Tynedale are very happy to celebrate local sporting achievement and a perfect example of this the local schools kwik cricket tournament that was held on the 6th June at Tynedale Cricket Club.

15 teams from 5 local middle schools took part over the full day in separate boys and girls competitions. Some fantastic cricket was on show with fours, sixes, diving catches and amazing run outs catching the eye.

In the boys competition Ovingham Middle School ran out as winners with Highfield Middle School runners up. Ovingham completed the double by winning the girls tournament with Highfield and Corbridge Middle School runners up. All of the winners and runners up of this competition now qualify for the county finals which are scheduled to be held in Tynedale at Stocksfield Cricket Club in July.

Festival organiser, Chris Catanach of Northumberland Cricket Board commented, “This is a great competition and an ideal stepping board into club cricket, the enthusiasm shown by the youngsters is amazing and there are a lot of future cricket players out there, it really is great to see”

Active Tynedale are committed to support local sporting activities and look forward to a long summer of sport and physical activity!
