‘Come and Try’
FREE activities on offer at Wentworth Leisure Centre’s ‘Come and Try’ Day
Wentworth Leisure Centre is holding a ’Come and Try’ day on Sunday 29th March, from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Organised by North Country Leisure’s Sports Development team and Wentworth Leisure Centre staff, the day will provide residents of Tynedale with a chance to experience for free, some of the many and varied sports and activities on offer, both at the leisure centre and by the numerous clubs and associations that run across the region.
Visitors to the centre on the day will be able to try their hand at a variety of fitness classes, activities and taster sessions including Rowing, Martial Arts, Volleyball, Golf, Pilates and Archery. Tynedale Play Project will deliver a fun-filled outdoor play session. Friendly and knowledgeable staff will be on hand to offer advice and guidance. All activities are completely free and booking is recommended in advance at the centre. A free crche will be available from 9.30am until 12.30pm.
Many people, particularly adults, find it difficult to achieve the recommended five, 30 minute sessions of exercise per week. As well as busy and demanding lifestyles, many people living in rural communities are deterred by the perceived lack of access to facilities. Thanks to initiatives by NCL’s sports development team, sport and activity is being delivered to the most remote areas of the region by specially appointed coaches. There are also numerous sports clubs and organisations throughout Tynedale, many of which are run by volunteers. They provide an opportunity for regular training and matches, or for the less competitive, a chance just to stay active, have fun and socialise.
Sports Development Manager, Kathie Keady says, “ Here in Tynedale we are lucky enough to have a wealth of sport and leisure facilities right on our doorstep. From traditional sports such as rugby, football and cricket, to dance, tennis, judo, squash and lots more. Water sports are also well represented in the area with canoeing, rowing and waterskiing all readily available. The free ‘Come and Try’ day will be a fun occasion for all the family to try something new.”
