Sporting Stars Come Out For Awards Night

IT’S all systems go for the Tyne Valley Insurance sponsored Tynedale Sports Council awards night at the Tynedale Farmer Function Suite in Hexham on December 1.

The safe hands of Newcastle United goalkeeper Steve Harper will be handing out more than a dozen trophies, and scores of certificates of merit to sports people from across the district.

It’s not only performances on the sports field that are recognised; the awards also honour those backroom people without whom sport could not be played.

Nominees come from all corners of the district and the age range is from eight to well over pensionable age.

All those clubs, teams and individuals listed below will receive an award of some kind, but the names of the trophy winners will not be revealed until the night.

Admission to the event is free, but it is advisable to get there early to be sure of a seat on what is always an enormously popular occasion.

The event has been running since 1976, and at the latest meeting of Northumberland County Council’s west area committee, Coun. Edward Heslop, of Colwell, said: “It is an absolutely wonderful occasion, to see so many people, particularly the young ones, being honoured in this way. It moves me to tears every year.”

The event starts at 7.30pm.
