Safe Practice in High Quality PESS CPD Opportunity - Apply Now to Avoid Missing Out
To accompany the provision of the afPE Safe Practice in PESS publication, we are delighted to be able to offer Northumberland schools the opportunity to send an appropriate member of staff on a half day workshop on 20 October 2009, which focuses upon current risk management issues and safe practice in Physical Education and School Sport.
The workshop(s) will be led by Glen Beaumont, National Health and Safety Officer for AfPE, who has kindly offered to deliver this National Course for us locally in Northumberland.
afPE Safe Practice in PESS Publication
The seventh edition of " Safe Practice in Physical Education and school Sport", published by the Association for Physical Education (afPE - previously BAALPE) has been fully updated and restructured to reflect recent legislative changes and developments in the physical education curriculum and fully supersedes the edition published in 2004, which should be disposed of.
This book should be regarded as an essential policy document offering national best practice in physical education and school sport. It is deemed essential reading for all staff who teach or supervise PE and who are responsible for drafting and implementing PE risk assessments. It should also be used as a reference source in planning activities which are supervised by external coaches. It is important to note that this document would always be cited in a civil claim or accident investigation involving physical education. The book is published every four years or so and at a cost equating to less than £10 a year represents excellent value for money.
In an effort to reduce costs to schools, The Learning and Development 0-19 Service has been able obtain a bulk supply of the book and each school has been issued with a copy. The document usually retails at £44.39.
We hope that this document and accompanying half day workshop noted above, will be used effectively to support the delivery of an exciting, challenging and safe curriculum in your school.
Safe practice in teaching and learning is critical to the process of achieving high quality Physical Education.
