Northumberland Developments

In Northumberland we as a local delivery agency (LDA) work collaboratively and strategically with a number of key partners such as our six school sport partnerships,sports colleges,work force professional development, Northumberland healthy schoools programme etc to plan, coordinate and deliver an effective and needs based CPD programme across the County .

National PE & School Sport CPD Background

The national PE and School Sport Professional Development programme is managed by the Consortium Management Group which consists of Youth Sport Trust, Association for PE (AfPE) and Sports Coach UK (scUK).

Established in 2003, it strives to improve the quality of teaching, coaching and learning in PE and School Sport.

The objectives of the programme, as part of the 5 hour offer, are to:

  • Help to raise the quality of teaching and learning in PE and School Sport within and beyond the curriculum, to raise pupils' attainment.
  • Improve the understanding of how high quality PE and School Sport can be used as a tool for whole school improvement - particularly in terms of behaviour management, attendance, and attainment.
  • Improve the understanding of how high quality PE and School Sport can be used to support healthy lifestyles and physical activity.
  • Encourage more innovative interpretation of the PE Programme of study to meet the needs of all pupils to enhance achievement.
  • Enhance cross phase continuity to improve pupils; progress.
