Two Sport Development Officers for Looked After Children and Young People (LACYP) have now taken up post with Northumberland County Council to start a new project delivering a much needed service in Northumberland. The posts which are supported by Northumberland Sport is funded by the Big Lottery Fund as part of the ‘newleaf…newlife’ portfolio .

In addition to providing the chance to take part for the first time, increase levels of participation or try new sports or activities, the project will also offer the potential to develop coaching and leadership skills with a view to enabling both volunteering and paid employment.

Project Aims are;

  • Engage LACYP in sport and physical activity, tailored to their age and their interests.
  • Offer a range of opportunities which will encourage regular participation.
  • Support them in their chosen activities and provide further opportunities to develop in various areas, e.g. volunteering, coaching, education.

How to get Started

The Sport Development team are looking forward to hearing from anyone who would like to get started in their preferred sport or activity, so please contact Emma Marshall or Gavin Rickelton for further details.
