Long Service Award
Northumberland Sport would like to congratulate Derek Thompson from Morpeth Amatuer Swimming Club on receiving the Regional Long Service Award in the recent Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) Aqua Volunteer Awards.
These awards recognise people that give up their time to work at ASA clubs, counties and national events. This year, more than 100 volunteers across the country were nominated for the Awards, reflecting the importance of volunteers at a regional level.
Derek has been involved with Morpeth Amateur Swimming Club for over 25 years in numerous roles such as Chair, committee member, parent and swimmer.
Jenny Glososp, Swimming Development Officer said "In a time when the professional nature of coaching is being emphasised, this award recognises that swimming still runs largely on the support and time that volunteers offer. Without their support, club swimming would cease to exist. Derek is a fine example how one person can put so much into swimming, showing commitment, drive and passion for pure enjoyment factor. Thank you Derek."
