Active Celebration North East Launch
Recently launched in the north east, Active Celebration has been designed to provide a range of initiatives to help get more people more active using the London 2012 Games.
This is a Department of Health funded report that promotes a range of intiatives based on two processes that explore the relationship that people have to sport/physical activity:
• Demonstration effect - useful for sport and formal physical activities that use the sporting values of the Olympics/Paralympics to inspire sport participation. Aimed at people who already believe in the value of sport, who may have enjoyed it in the past and can be inspired to do more as excitement in the Olympics grows.
• Festival effect - for general physical activity and informal sport, this builds a sense of community involvement in the occasion to promote active celebration of the Olympic/Paralympic festival. Aimed at the least active who may have a negative attitude to sport but could be persuaded by other values.
Further Information
The document also presents 13 example case studies aimed at different market segments that partners could consider as part of an Olympic inspired physical activity programme. Examples include: Generation Games, Chance to Dance, City Spin, Stroll 'n' Roll and they all describe the target market, potential partners, activity ideas and how these contribute to the London 2012 legacy ambition.
