Adopt an Athlete

The British Athlete's Commission (BAC) is offering an alternative to your regular Christmas gifts this festive season - they're giving you the chance to adopt an athlete.

Anyone who buys this gift for a friend or relative will receive a thank you email, a signed certificate from the athlete and regular updates about their progress. The idea is to generate support for the athletes in the run-up to the 2012 Olympic Games with less than 1,000 days to go.

Zac Purchase, Rowing Olympic Gold Medallist at Beijing, says: “We are all very proud to be able to represent our country in our disciplines but when faced with injury or legal issues we have very little support. The BAC offers us a safety net and we incredibly grateful to all those that support us, especially with 2012 on the horizon.”

Adopting an athlete will cost just £12 a year and is available for purchase by visiting the British Athletes Commission website.
