Alnwick Football Funday Proves a Huge Hit

Northumberland Sport in conjunction with Newcastle United Foundation recently held a girl’s football fun day at the fantastic indoor facility at Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre, Alnwick, where over 30 players attended the free football coaching sessions.
The children were also excited to welcome Everton and England midfielder Jill Scott, who was the special guest on the day. Jill was on hand to pass on valuable advice to the up and coming footballers and answer any questions from the children.
The day was aimed at girl’s aged 7 – 12 years old of all abilities to help raise awareness of girl’s football in Northumberland, with fun and enjoyment being the main aim. The success of the day was a further indication of the continued growth of the girls’ game in Northumberland.
Northumberland Sport Women’s & Girl’s Football Development Officer Nicola Hepworth said “It was a fantastic day and an excellent opportunity for girl’s to be involved in such a prestigious event. The day was made even more special for all that attended with Jill being such a fantastic role model and a successful female player from our region”.
