Club fo the Year Award for Tynedale Gymnastics Club

Tynedale Gymnastics Club received a top regional award for gymnastics earlier this month. The Club, based at Wentworth Leisure Centre in Hexham, was chosen as the General Gymnastics Committee 'Club of the Year' at a regional conference at Redworth Hall Hotel in Darlington. The award was presented to head coach Gayle Crowell to mark the Clubs 'outstanding contribution to General Gymnastics in the region'. It was a huge honour for Tynedale Gymnastics Club and marked the end of a very busy and successful gymnastics year.
The Club has gone from strength to strength over the last year. In January, thanks to a grant from Sport England, the Club was able to purchase over £11,000 worth of new equipment. This benefited 175 pre-school age children who use the facilities each week at Wentworth's 'Top Tots' and 'Pre School Gymnastics' sessions as well as almost 200 boys and girls who enjoy recreational gymnastics classes at the centre and the 50 gymnasts who are members of the Tynedale Gymnastics Squad. This is the highest ever participation in gymnastics for the Wentworth based Club.
The Club has also competed all over the region as well as in France, and has won many individual medals and trophies as well as Club trophies. The Club recently became the first and only gymnastics club in Tynedale to achieve British Gymnastics' 'GymMark' accreditation, which recognises the Club as safe, effective and child-friendly. It is the quality Kite Mark for gymnastics clubs and gives parents quality assurance, a nationally recognised standard of delivery, qualified coaches and staff trained in child protection.
As a result of its success, Tynedale Gymnastics became the chosen Club to deliver Northumberland Sports 'Sport Unlimited' gymnastics programme to schools across Tynedale, giving children of all ages and abilities the opportunity to try out free gymnastics classes run by qualified BG coaches. Those children will have the opportunity to go on and compete in the regional schools 'Key Steps' competition later in the school year.
