Developing the Workforce in Northumberland

Coach with team

Following a series of consultations with Partners including Sport England, Skills Active, and sportscoach UK, Northumberland Sport successfully secured £133,000 to develop the skills, capacity and qualifications of the sporting workforce in the county. This is a tremendous and notable achievement for the Partnership and will provide the relevant support to achieve the following aims & objectives;

  • To build capacity of the volunteer workforce within Northumberland
  • To develop a ‘fit for purpose’ workforce to deliver local needs
  • To strengthen the community and voluntary sports club networks
  • To support Northumberland Sport and our Sport & Physical Activity Alliances in achieving the 1% increase in sport and active recreation participation
  • To support partners in addressing under representation from priority groups
  • To contribute to achieving cross cutting priorities outlined in key national and regional policy
  • To underpin the delivery of the regions 2012 volunteering legacy priorities identified through the Regional Sports Volunteering Strategy

Moving forward, Northumberland Sport will continue to develop a stronger strategic alliance with the other County Sports Partnerships in the region and the five North East Universities as part of a Regional Coaching Forum. We also aim to establish a Regional Coaching Service that will enhance provision for coaching within the County.
