FREE Coaching Workshops at Newcastle Falcons
Coaching development has long been a central plank of the Newcastle Falcons involvement with community rugby and the Kingston Park club will be working with the Rugby Football Union in the coming weeks to deliver a programme of three specific coaching sessions.
Designed to target senior first team, county and regional coaches, the three sessions will be delivered by Newcastle Falcons senior players and coaching staff along with Danny Brown, the Falcons Coach Developer.
The three monthly sessions will be held at Kingston Park to allow use of indoor facilities and cutting edge technology which includes video analysis.
Start dates
The programme opens on Monday 6 February 7pm - 8:30pm with a session on skills delivered by Falcons skills coach Calum Macrae, who will use video analysis to demonstrate skills and techniques to improve all players.
On Monday 5 March at 7pm - 8:30pm the focus switches to nutrition, with England Saxons player and Newcastle Falcons captain James Hudson offering advice on the importance of correct nutrition and how it can be monitored at different levels of the sport.
Front-row play and scrummaging will be in the spotlight on Monday2 April at 7pm - 8.30pm when British & Irish Lions, Scotland and Newcastle Falcons prop Euan Murray will be looking at key aspects of front row play and coaching techniques.
"This coaching programme is part of a wider drive towards strengthening member clubs and growing the game in the communities around them" says Alan Moses, RFU Coach Development Officer for the North East.
"The recruitment, retention and development of high-quality coaches is a key component of the RFU objectives going forward. While we will continue to deploy time and resources in strengthening the flow of new coaches coming into the game, it is important to cater for the development of people who have advanced a good way down that pathway.
"These sessions are a great opportunity for experienced, high-level coaches to engage at first-hand with experts from professional end of the game and further develop their skills."
Places are limited on all three of these courses and will be on a first come first served basis and there is no cost to the sessions.
