Sport Relief Mile Runners

Hundreds of families turned out in force on Sunday 21 March 2010 for Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile at Druridge Bay Country Park, near Amble in Northumberland.  Milers of all ages rose to the challenge and were sponsored to do 1, 3 or 6 miles for Sport Relief.  The good weather on the day also helped runners and spectators enjoy the beautiful scenery offered by the park’s stunning heritage coastline, lake, woodland and tracks.

Organised by Northumberland Sport, the day was a massive success with friends, families and work mates joining together in friendly rivalry to rise to the challenge.  Former Commonwealth Games Gold medallist, Jim Alder MBE was on hand to inspire and encourage runners on the day.  Prior to the mile runs, Inspire, a local dance act, provided runners with the opportunity to warm up by taking many of the runners through some fun, enjoyable dance movements.

Doug Lowery, Executive Director for Northumberland Sport said:

“Sunday's event provided a great opportunity for more local people in Northumberland to get involved in the Sport Relief miles, helping raise more money to help transform lives.  This also provided a great opportunity to showcase a fantastic venue for running, cycling and walking which is right on our doorstep.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our young volunteers and Rapid Reaction staff for helping make this a safe, fun and enjoyable experience for all involved.”
