North East Centre of Excellence

After the success of last seasons (08/09) Centre of Excellence for players with disabilities in the North East, Northumberland Football Association have again succeeded in securing funding for the centre to operate in season 09/10. The FA Regional Centre of Excellence offers specialist coaching to talented young footballers with disabilities. The Centre also acts as the pathway to National squads.

With this in mind nominations are now being accepted for the forthcoming FA U14’s & U17’s (Operating 4 year age bands) Regional Centre of Excellence assessments.

The assessments will take place on Monday 28th September 2009, Monday 5th, 12th, and 19th October 6:00pm until 7.30pm at Gateshead College, Gateshead Stadium, Neilson Road, Gateshead, NE10 0EF.

The Centre is open to boys aged 10 – 16 years old. Players are invited from National Squad impairment groups (Learning difficulties, cerebral palsy, visually impaired, deaf and amputee). Players with mild learning difficulties or have behavioural / emotional problems, to be eligible the boy would either be statemented, have special educational needs or be in receipt of supported education within mainstream school. Ideally they would have an IQ result of 70 or below.

A player can be nominated for an assessment either by a school, club or parent/guardian. Download a nomination form.
