Northumberland Demonstrates a Commitment to Safeguarding Young People in Sport
Northumberland Sport has successfully achieved the NSPCC’s Intermediate Standard in Safeguarding & Protecting Children & Young People in Sport.
Executive Director Doug Lowery said: “This is a tremendous achievement and demonstrates the commitment the Partnership has placed on the development of procedures and systems which are aimed at reducing risks. The standard includes having essential information and support available to those individuals and organisations with a responsibility for creating safe sporting environments and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in helping us to achieve this for their hard work.”
As a result of attaining this Standard, Northumberland Sport has committed to the following principles laid down by the Standards for Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport;
- All children and young people have a right to enjoy sport, free from all forms of abuse and exploitation
- All children and young people have equal rights to protection from harm
- All children and young people should be encouraged to fulfil their potential and inequalities should be challenged
- Everybody has a responsibility to support the care and protection of children
- Sporting organisations have a duty of care to children and young people who take part in sport
