Northumberland First Premier Schools for Badminton

Cramlington Learning Village

Cramlington Learning Village receiving their award

The Blyth School Community College and Cramlington Learning Village both recently achieved Premier School status for Badminton, the first in Northumberland to do so.

Both schools are Hubs of badminton activity within the South East Northumberland Community Badminton Network, with coaching in curriculum time, a number of after-school clubs, and NGB affiliated clubs playing on the school sites including a Premier Junior Club (John Watt Academy) based at Cramlington. There are opportunities for both children and adults in the community to play at these venues.

The BADMINTON England Regional Manager for Yorkshire and the North East, Jo Clarke presented both schools with their Premier School certificates. Jo was extremely impressed with the commitment of both schools and with the amount of badminton going on there.

Norma Waterfield, Northumberland's Regional Officer commented "Both schools thoroughly deserve to have achieved Premier School status - only 25 schools in the whole country have achieved this so far. They are excellent examples of schools where badminton is thriving and where pathways for the players are well established."
