Northumberland Team Net Championship

Regional Winners

The Regional Winners

The school netball teams that had finished winner and runner up in the Northumberland High 5 Final, held earlier in the year, represented our county in the Regional High 5 netball competition held at Newcastle University’s Cochrane Park Sports Ground recently against teams that had qualified from all four North East Counties.

The Competition Managers from Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Durham and Tees Valley worked with the Sports Development teams from the 5 North East Universities (SUNEE) and their students to organise a two league programme where each Year 5 and 6 team played against the others in their league and then played across the leagues to decide the final positions and the winners.

The Competition was strong, matches were close, player conduct was excellent and the winners were the team from OvinghamMiddle School, Northumberland, who triumphed over DurhamHigh School in the final, having won all their matches in the League format … congratulations. CragsideMiddle School, our county champion, was Northumberland’s other representative.

Matches were umpired by SUNEE sports students; university teams from Sunderland and Teesside played an exhibition match of an inspirational standard and the certificates and trophies for the school teams were presented by Tessa Burton, Team Northumbria. All expenses and the venue were very kindly provided by the SUNEE organisation.

It is hoped that this event will be repeated next year, along with other regional schools’ sports opportunities provided by joint working and co-operation between north east universities and competition managers.
