Hundreds of families from around the region took up the Get Active Challenge on Saturday 20 June 2009 and turned up at Druridge Bay Country Park for an afternoon of free sport.

Doug Lowery, Executive Director of Northumberland Sport said:
“Although the weather wasn’t particularly kind to us on Saturday, it was great to see such a good turn out, especially whole families coming along together to try out new and fun activities. The open water swim was also a great success with people turning up from all over the country to take part and many competitors trying the event for the first time.”
“We hope that everyone who came along on Saturday enjoyed themselves and that the event proved that keeping active and having fun can go hand in hand.”
Jenny Glossop, event organiser said:
“I would like to congratulate everyone who was part of Northumberland Sport’s first Open water swim, from the team that worked on the planning of the event to the volunteers on the day, from the swimmers who trained so hard and completed the challenge to the spectators that showed their support and respect to those taking part. This was a truly remarkable and enjoyable occasion and one that I hope to see again in the future.”
