Sportsability Festival Marks 300 Days to Go!!
Mandeville with Stephen Miller
With 300 days to go until the start of the London 2012 Games, Mandeville, the official Paralympic Mascot made a special appearance at the Northumberland Sportsability Festival, who proved to be a very popular figure with all the young participants who attended this Paralympic Festival of Sport.
Young participants were also joined over the weekend by Northumberland's most successful Paralympian, Stephen Miller and Newcastle Eagles Player/Coach Fab Flournoy and players from his Eagles team. They were a real inspirations to all participants, offering advice and encouragement whilst having a go at some of the activities themselves, which proved to be a lot of fun.
Stephen said:
"It's fantastic to see local young people taking part in this festival at such a great venue, which will encourage them to participate in sport at local clubs. It was also great to see Mandeville whipping up the enthusiasm ahead of the London Paralympic Games next year, which I hope will provide an added incentive for young people to take part in sport and perhaps go on to compete at future Games."
Doug Lowery, said:
"We're really pleased to have hosted this event and would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped out over the weekend, including national governing body sports coaches for helping make it a real success.
There were some tremendous performances over the weekend, which shows that real talent exists in Northumberland. I hope some of the participants will now continue to play in their chosen sports and reach their potential."
