Steve Cram steps down as Chair of Northumberland Sport
Doug presenting Steve with recognition award
After thirteen years in the role and owing to increasing professional commitments, Steve Cram MBE recently decided to stand down as the Chair of Northumberland Sport. Over this period, he has helped the Partnership grow, raised the profile of sport and physical activity in the county and helped to secure increased investment into grassroots sport. Northumberland Sport works with many organisations across the sport and leisure sector including National Governing Bodies of sport and has a core purpose of getting more people to take up sport and lead active lifestyles.
Steve said:
"I've really enjoyed my time as Chair of Northumberland Sport and would like to thank partners for their hard work and commitment to date and wish the new Chair and all those connected with Northumberland Sport a successful and rewarding period ahead. Sport can sometimes be a frustrating environment to operate within, however the passion of those involved is never in question. As the landscape inevitably shifts again with a relatively new government it can be easy to lose sight of the central theme of widening access to sport and improving the levels of experience and attainment. Hopefully Northumberland Sport will be resourced and structured to do just that in the future."
New Chair Appointed
Northumberland Sport has appointed former international athlete & coach Tony Settle to be the new Chair. With a vast amount of experience working in both the public and private sectors, Tony is also no stranger to working with County Sports Partnership including Northumberland Sport, having previously facilitated stakeholder forums, contributed to business plans and researched workforce needs for all four north east County Sports Partnerships.
Doug Lowery, Executive Director for Northumberland Sport said:
"I would like to express my gratitude to Steve for his contribution to the Partnership over the past thirteen years. Steve's endeavour and commitment to supporting grass roots sport through Northumberland Sport has been tremendous. The knowledge and experience he brought to our Partnership has helped enormously and he has been a great asset to the Northumberland Sport Board. In wishing Steve well for the future both professionally and personally, I am also delighted that he has agreed to retain an interest in Northumberland Sport and has offered to act in an ambassadorial role for us whenever he can.
I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Tony Settle as the new Chair. He will bring new skills and a fresh perspective to the Board. He has a genuine passion for sport at all levels and a firm belief in the need for everyone of all ages to be fit and healthy through exercise. As a consequence, I am very confident he will make a significant contribution to the work of Northumberland Sport."
