Vetting and Barring Scheme Under Review

The new government has recently announced the suspension of the introduction of the Vetting & Barring Scheme (VBS) pending the outcome of a comprehensive review, which is likely to result in remodelling and significant scaling back of the scope of the scheme.

Although registration with the VBS will not now go ahead, the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) will continue to make barring decisions on individuals. Although the scheme is halted whilst the Government undertakes its review, new safeguarding regulations introduced in October 2009 continue to apply.
