Northumberland Gets Active at Druridge Bay

Kite flying, frisbee golf, capoeira dancing and even pole vaulting, were just some of the activities laid on at Druridge Bay on Saturday to show residents around the county some unusual and exiting ways to keep fit and active.

The country park was a hive of action and activity as people from around the region turned up to take part in a sport and activity day, organised by Northumberland Sport to kick off their Get Active Northumberland campaign.

The aim of the campaign is to encourage people to get active and to stay active and to highlight the amazing opportunities the region has to offer – not just in terms of sporting clubs and organisations, but also the unique Northumberland landscape – woodland, hills, national parkland and stunning beaches - which we can all take advantage of and enjoy.

Our Executive Director said “This was our first event of this kind.  People of all ages came along and joined in the spirit of the day, and that is exactly what we wanted.

“What is particularly significant for us is that many people took the time to talk to the district development officers to find out more about sports clubs and activities taking place in their neighbourhood.  We hope that the day opened up people’s minds to the wide variety of opportunities available to them and acted as a catalyst to get more people in the county involved in sport and active recreation.”
