Tynedale Sports Council Awards
The recent 33rd annual Tynedale Sports Council Awards attracted over 300 people who came to see Newcastle United and
Awards were presented to clubs, teams and individuals, players, coaches and young leaders in a variety of sports from athletics, cricket, football and swimming to car and truck racing. Award recipients were aged between 10 and 80, demonstrating the diversity of the sports participants in Tynedale and their achievements.
Those honoured included 14 year old Edward Common who represented Britain in powerchair football at the World Cup in Japan; Paul Burgess, a founder member of Hexham Canoe Club who is still coaching and competing at the age of 81 and junior World champion wild water canoeist, 17 year old Sandra Hyslop who also helped Great Britain to team gold in the World Championships in Colorado and was short listed for BBC Young Sports Personality of the year 2007.
