Healthy Walks Programme

Northumberland Sport is pleased to announce that further funding has been secured to deliver intergenerational health walks in the local ‘Communities of Alnwick, Rothbury, Amble and Druridge Bay’ (CARAD)

These walks will aim to take parents/ grandparents and their children/ grandchildren out walking in the wonderful scenery that we have here in Northumberland.  All the walks will be led by Volunteer Walk Leaders who will be trained in basic navigation skills, first aid and the skills required to lead groups.

This proposed addition to the current weekly Health Walks is aiming to build on the great work that has been done in these local communities.

JonMonks, the CARAD Health Walks Co-ordinator said “Over the summer months we have been getting a large number of parents coming on the Health Walks with their children. Therefore with such interest already being shown it was the natural progression to develop a dedicated walk programme for these people.  This is one of the first intergenerational walks programmes in the region so a lot of other people will be interested in what we learn when delivering what I hope will be a fun and exciting series of walks".

As funding has just been secured from the ‘Fit, Involved, Safe and  Healthy Networks (Fishnets) project, John is looking for a number of interested people who would like to be trained and help to deliver a number of these walks.

If you are interested in becoming a walk leader and have a few hours a week free to help, please contact John on 01665 714385 or email him at jon.monks@northcounryleisure.org.uk. All the training will be completely free of charge and hopefully the walk leaders will get as much out of the walks as those attending the walks.

If you require any additional information on sport and active recreation in CARAD, please contact the Leisure Alnwick team.
