NAN Launch Event
Athletics Networks are clusters of athletics clubs working strategically with other local key partners to develop the sport of athletics in the county of Northumberland.
McCain Athletics Network seek to drive up the quality of coaching, links with community groups such as schools, competition in clubs (inter and intra club) and also seek to develop the all round quality of provision within clubs of the network.
The aim of McCain Nortumberland Athletics Network (NAN) is all about working in partnership to promote, improve the provision and drive forward athletics in the county.
The aim of NAN is to promote athletics as a core skill, that underpins other sports, and to provide improved training and competition in athletics, to the Northumberland community, by pooling clubs' resources and thereby increasing effectiveness. An intrinsic part of the Network will be to encourage greater involvement of adults and young people in the county in fitness through athletics.
The Network was officially launched on 2nd of October 2010 at the Concordia Leisure Centre, home of our host Blyth Valley Arts & Leisure Limited, Forum Way, Cramlington, Northumberland, NE23 6YB. Here, John Stacey - CCSO, England Athletics, with Stephen Miller - presents NAN with a cheque for the Year-1 funding of the Network, accompnied by NAN Clubs representatives and young athletes.
The aim of the network is:
To develop the sport of athletics by all member clubs working together, sharing experience, knowhow, developing new ideas, projects and by working with our partner organisations to these ends.
Our objectives are:
- To grow and sustain participation levels in the sport
- To improve the quality of experience for all participants
- To improve the quantity and quality of coaches at all levels
- To improve levels of athletics performance
- To lay the foundations for the next generation of champions
- To establish sustainable club environments
