Northumberland Sport work in partnership with our School Sport Partnerships (SSP's) and Northumberland County Council to support schools and those working in schools to provide high quality sport in schools, helping children and young people to achieve their full potential.
In 2003 the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) published the Learning Through PE & Sport. This set out the 'guide to recognising and achieving high quality PE and sport in schools and clubs. The Strategy's aim was to deliver the Government target of:
"By 2008 we want the percentage of school children who spend a minimum of two hours per week on high quality PE and school sport within and beyond the curriculum to be 85%."
We are delighted to announce that our SSP's have already exceeded this target for 2008 which is a tremendous achievement!
