Summer Adventure 2011

Change for Life poster title is Who Wants our Children to Live Longer

The school summer holidays are getting nearer, but there is still time for children and families across the county to pledge to be more active as part of Change4Life's Really Big Summer Adventure.

The Secretary of State for Health, Rt Hon Andrew Lansley, MP, officially launched the campaign and children across the country are being encouraged to get involved by eating more healthily and becoming more active.

The Department of Health's Change4Life movement aims to tackle obesity and encourage everyone to get involved and make positive life changes.

The Really Big Summer Adventure campaign includes an online Fun Generator. With more than 100 activity ideas, it aims to give parents some inspiration on how to fill the summer holidays in a fun and active way.

Adults and families can access the Fun Generator and receive a free personalised action plan by joining the campaign on the Change for Life website.

Special packs have been sent out to schools across the country to get pupils in years 3, 4 and 5 geared up for the challenge. All schools are invited to take part and come September three lucky schools in the region will win up to £1,000 worth of sports equipment by telling Change4Life about their favourite Really Big Summer Adventure activity.

Resources include a "60 active minutes" poster and a spinning "fun wheel" which demonstrate the different ways that children can get their 60 active minutes a day.

There's a wipeable "Really Big Summer Adventure" poster which is useful for those who are organising more than one Change4Life event, and a voucher book, available from the end of July, containing offers worth over £50 on fruit and vegetables, sports clothing and equipment and play sessions.

Change4Life support materials are free and can be ordered from the Department of Health Orderline at www.orderline.dh.gov.uk or by calling 0300 123 3434.

Alternatively they can be downloaded from the Change4Life website.
