Northumberland Sport Policy

Northumberland Sport has produced a Child Protection: Policy & Implementation Procedures Policy to complement the existing policies and procedures provided by Northumberland County Council social services.  

This policy seeks to provide a focus to the importance of ensuring the safety of young people in sport, especially related to the recruitment and deployment of adults who are fit for purpose.  All partners in Northumberland Sport who are in receipt of, or expect to be in receipt of, lottery funding (e.g. active sports) must adhere to the policies and procedures contained in this document. While this is a mandatory requirement for Northumberland Sport programmes, this document is available for partners to develop tailored policies as appropriate.  

It also offers guidelines to partner organisations and local clubs to adopt and implement procedures for administrators, coaches, instructors, officials, teachers, parents and young people.  We all have a duty of care towards young and vulnerable performers and can help to protect them from abuse.
