Developing the Workforce in Northumberland
Northumberland Sport is passionate about the many benefits sport can deliver especially for children and young people.
We believe that these benefits which increase through sustained involvement in sport can only happen when opportunities are provided by responsible, trained and aware people who put the welfare of the child first.
Government's Agenda to Safeguard Children
One of the key principles of the Governments Every Child Matters: Change for Children strategy is that;
safeguarding and promoting children and young people’s welfare is everybody’s business
The Government’s guidance document ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ (DfES 2006), reflect the safeguarding role and responsibilities of sports organisations. This identifies a statutory requirement for all organisations, including sports organisations to put in place:
‘arrangements to ensure that all staff undertake appropriate training to equip them to carry out their responsibilities effectively, and keep this up to date by refresher training at regular intervals; and that all staff, including temporary staff and volunteers who work with children are made aware of the establishment’s arrangements for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and their responsibilities for this’.
In organisational terms this involves everybody from senior management to grass roots volunteers. For further information please click here.
