Academy Sessions a Success in Alnwick

Image

During the October half term holiday, 17 young swimmers from the local learn to swim scheme, participated in intense hourly sessions at Willowburn Sports Centre, Alnwick.  The swimmers had been identified and invited by their swimming teachers to attend the sessions, due to the talent they had demonstrated throughout the year.

The North Northumberland Swimming Forum supports the development of the Academies.  In their third year of being rolled out, the academies act as a successful programme bridging the gap between school lessons or learn to swim lessons and club sessions.

The sessions were taken by Melvin Slack, an experienced swimming teacher from Willowburn, with assistance from BillCunningham, AdamDuncan and IvorParlidge, all coaches from Alnwick Dolphins and JennyGlossop from Northumberland Sport.

The Coaches from Alnwick Dolphins were constantly talent spotting throughout the sessions, with two swimmers immediately invited to join the club and another eight swimmers invited to attend a further trial session during club time.

If you are interested in joining a swimming club, please contact JennyGlossop, Swimming Development Officer.
