Step into Sport is an exciting programme designed to engage young volunteers (aged 16-19) to volunteer within quality local community sports clubs.

Working with School Sport Partnerships (SSP) network and local authorities, Northumberland Sport supports the development of young volunteers in Northumberland and helps identify suitable placement opportunities in local clubs.

Step into Sport Success

To date, the programme has proved highly successful in Northumberland with many young people across the county providing thousands of invaluable voluntary hours in local clubs.

The programme has also been supported by some of our most distinguished athletes in the region including Paralympian Dame Tanni Grey Thompson DBE, Northumberland Sport Chairman Steve Cram MBE, former Olympic and twice Commonwealth Gymnastic Gold medalist Craig Heap, former Olympic athlete Alison Curbishley and Newcastle Eagles player/coach Fab Flournoy.

This year, to recognise the achievements of the young volunteers involved in the 2008-09 Step into Sport programme, Northumberland Sport organised a highly successful Awards Evening.  Please click on Celebration of Northumberland's Young Volunteers for more details about this evening.
